Hare Run — Privacy Policy
1. Summary
Hare Run is a single-player arcade chase game with an optional online leaderboard. We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run the game and the leaderboard. We do not collect your real name, email, phone number, precise location, photos, contacts, or an advertising identifier. We do not sell your data and we do not share it with third parties for advertising.
This policy is kept consistent with our Google Play Data Safety disclosure: the play-session summary is off until you consent, there is no crash reporting or diagnostics of any kind, and the leaderboard stores your nickname and score — which you can delete yourself from inside the game.
2. What we collect and why
- Pseudonymous account identifier (user ID). The first time something needs an account — you open the leaderboard, you finish an Endless or Daily run (its score is posted to the board automatically), or you agree to share play data — Firebase Anonymous Authentication creates a random pseudonymous identifier. It is not created while you only play the Campaign: until one of those three things happens, no identifier exists and nothing about you leaves your device. The identifier is considered personal data under the GDPR even though it is not your name, email, or any directly identifying detail — and we treat it accordingly. Purpose: to own your leaderboard entry so only you can update it.
- Nickname. When an Endless or Daily run ends, its score is posted to the global leaderboard and the nickname you chose is stored and shown publicly to other players. If you never chose one, the game makes one for you — a short display name built from your pseudonymous identifier, such as “Hare-1a2b” — and that is what appears on the board. You can replace it at any time on the leaderboard screen. Purpose: to label your leaderboard entry.
- Game scores and progress. Your score, wave reached, and game mode are stored with your leaderboard entry. A Daily Run entry also stores the day it was played, because each day has its own board. Your personal best runs and unlock progress are also stored locally on your device. Purpose: leaderboard ranking and game progression.
- Gameplay analytics — off unless you say yes. The first time you open the game we ask, on a screen with two equally weighted choices, whether we may record how you play. Nothing is recorded unless you choose “Allow” — collection is switched off before the game starts and is only switched on by your answer. If you consent, we record one short summary per play session, and that summary is the complete list: your pseudonymous identifier, the day you first opened the game and the day of this session, which numbered session it is, which version of the game it is and how many seconds it lasted, how many runs you started and how many you finished, the outcome and length of the first run in the session, which mode you chose first; for each run in the session, the mode, how far it got (campaign field or endless wave), how long it lasted, how it ended, how many kits you were carrying, how many hearts you lost, and how many seconds in you first turned, first found a kit and first lost a heart; which part of the game you were in when you stopped playing; the deepest campaign field and endless wave your device has reached; and a flag recording that you agreed to this. Nothing else is sent — no score, no biome, no route or position, and never your name or any free-form text you type. Purpose: to see where the game is too hard, too slow or not fun. Legal basis: your consent. You can withdraw consent at any time from the pause menu (“Share play data”), which switches collection back off immediately. Declining, or later withdrawing, changes nothing else about the game — every mode and the global leaderboard work exactly the same either way.
- Crash & diagnostic data — none. The game contains no crash reporting or diagnostics service. If it stops working, nothing about that is sent to us or to anyone else.
What we do NOT collect
Real name, email address, phone number, precise or coarse location, photos or media, contacts, microphone/camera input, advertising ID, or your device’s contact list. (The game also does not currently upload gameplay replays.)
3. How data is shared
We use Google Firebase (Authentication and Cloud Firestore) as a data processor. We use no analytics SDK and no crash-reporting service: the play-session summary described above is written by the game itself, to our own Firestore database, and only after you have agreed — collection stays off until you consent. Data is processed under Google’s privacy terms: firebase.google.com/support/privacy and policies.google.com/privacy. Your nickname and score are visible to other players on the public leaderboard. We do not share data with any third party for advertising or marketing.
4. Data security and retention
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). Your leaderboard entry (nickname + score) and any play-session summaries are retained until you delete them (see §5). Local data stays on your device until you uninstall the app or clear its data.
5. Your choices and how to delete your data
- Analytics. You are asked once, on first launch, and nothing is recorded unless you agree. You can change that answer at any time from the pause menu (“Share play data”). Withdrawing is as easy as giving consent and takes effect immediately. Session summaries already sent are removed by “Delete my data” below, or by emailing the address at the top of this policy.
- Your leaderboard entry — you can delete it yourself, in the game. Open the leaderboard screen and use “Delete my data”. It asks you to confirm, then removes your leaderboard entries, your stored nickname and every play-session summary sent from your device, and switches “Share play data” off so nothing new is sent. It is offered to every player who has anything stored with us, whether or not you set a nickname. You do not need to contact us and you do not need to explain why. If you would rather write to us instead, email the address at the top of this policy — because nicknames are not guaranteed unique, include your nickname, your approximate score, and the approximate date you set it, so we can identify the right entry.
- Local data. Everything stored on your device — best scores, progress, unlocks, your consent answer — is removed when you uninstall the app or clear its storage in Android settings.
- Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete your data (e.g. GDPR / CCPA); contact us at the address above to exercise them.
6. Age and personal information
Hare Run does not ask for or knowingly collect personal details such as a name, email address, or contact information from any player — there is no sign-up, and accounts are pseudonymous by design. If you believe a nickname or leaderboard entry should be removed, contact us at the address above.
7. Changes to this policy
If we change what we collect or how we use it — for example if we add advertising — we will update this policy and change the effective date at the top before the change takes effect.
